The Union Hall
Does God care about where we work? Does He even know we are in line trying to find a job? Can He see us from His Heavenly Throne Room? You bet He can!! He does care and He does know we are in line…waiting, for all kinds of things!! Life is a waiting game. But it doesn’t feel much like a game most times. It feels more like an hour glass, with grains of sand pouring through it, until that last grain of sand is about to fall…and THEN God swoops in and shows us some things we had never imagined before. I’m not saying He swoops in and fixes everything, making it all fabulous!! But “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. (Matt 6:33NLT) In the refining fires of life, we can be doused with God’s grace and hope, as we seek Him!
So, back to the Union Hall… I got a little off track there for a bit!! Sort of like life, when we think we’re going one direction, and we end up heading off in another… Off we go, down the yellow brick road to who knows where? I heard today that there are different kinds of people in life. Some are just traveling along, with no destination in mind, and some are heading toward a particular destination. One thing we do need to be doing is heading forward, not backwards. Forward means growth, lessons learned, perhaps even not making the same mistakes again, and having to feel the same pain from those mistakes. How do we do that? We focus on Jesus. We follow Him. We walk His way, not the way of the world. We don’t even have to know exactly where we are going, because Jesus does. With Him, it means we are traveling in the right direction.
And so, the Union Hall… Yes, I’m wandering through this message, just having fun today! HA! But, lest I digress again, I will focus! My son, Chris, works for the Union as a Plumber Journeyman in San Francisco. It’s not an easy job to get into, and it always helps to know someone who is already there. His friend was applying for a job, and Chris met him at the Union Hall. While his friend was standing at the end of a very long line outside, Chris went inside to see what was what. He came back out, called to his friend, and escorted him into the building. Chris found out there was no need to be in that long line—but we can be like sheep and follow the herd/flock/mob (all three work with sheep) when it seems to be going in the right direction. When the two guys got into the building, one of Chris’ instructors was right there. Chris introduced him to his friend and of the 30 people interviewing the 1,500 applicants that day, who should his friend get as his interviewer? Yes, that very instructor. Not planned or pre-arranged by our son, but by our Heavenly God!
That is our Searching And Noticing the Divine moment for today! We don’t know if it’s in God’s plan for Chris’ friend to get the job as yet. But we can know that God is watching over you and me at all times! Every step we take in life leads us to the next one, and the next, until it hopefully leads us right into the loving arms of Jesus, one day, because we have put our trust in Him somewhere along the way.
