With moving, I have grown quite familiar with Craigslist. We have purged many things by listing them there, and we have also seen needs fulfilled by shopping there. A few things did not sell on Craigslist, so we used those cards that come in the mail saying a truck will be in our neighborhood on such-and-such a date. That works well, also. One of the things I was trying to get rid of was a roll-away bed. I put it out when the truck came by, but they left a note saying I needed to call their furniture truck, so I did. A couple of days before the furniture truck was to come, we had company for Easter and I got to see how things were working “without” the roll-away. We needed the roll-away. I thought, “I know why You wouldn’t let the bed go on Craigslist, God, or even with the first truck that came by. Thank You for seeing our need even before we did.” I canceled the furniture truck pick-up.

During this time, my sister “just happened” to be telling us the stories of when we had foreign exchange students living in our home. She talked about the many times she slept in the family room on a cot, while her bedroom was given up for students from Japan and elsewhere. By this time, I was married and gone. As I listened to her story, she didn’t know what God had put on my mind concerning the roll-away. Now it didn’t seem like such a crazy idea—the end of our dining room could become a roll-away bedroom. We even have a room partition for that area. With a couple of other items the truck also wouldn’t pick up, we have a bedroom downstairs!

It is fun seeing God in all the little things of life. How many times do we miss Him, waiting for the big miracles? I was reading in John 6 this morning. Jesus said, “…you have seen me and still you do not believe.” He was talking about being the Bread from Heaven. The crowd wanted a big miracle to believe He was the Son of God. They talked about the manna, the big miracle their forefathers received. Jesus told them that the Bread they were now receiving was even better than that manna. He told them He is the Bread that gives life to the world.

When Searching And Noticing the Divine, let’s not miss when God is right here among us, doing His thing—being our life, helping us with everyday things, as well as providing an eternal life because of Jesus’ death and resurrection. Yes, roll-away beds can be God’s miracles, too. Jesus gives rest to the weary on this earth, as well as forever more.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28 (NIV)
