Wouldn’t it be nice if someone went before us in our day and made the way so much easier? What if that someone knew what we would be heading into, and redirected our path? Or if they warned us not to even leave the house in the first place? How about someone who helped us out of our messes? How awesome would that be? Maybe we all have Someone like that. But we aren’t always connecting the dots, so to speak.
Today, I was to have coffee with a friend. But the traffic on the freeway was all backed up for some reason. She got off the freeway and sent me a text. She asked God what she should do. She turned around and went back home. Our coffee date was off, but we did resume it on the phone later. We could have known ahead of time what the traffic was like if we had checked our very smart phones for the traffic on 680. It clearly showed the freeway was going at a snail’s pace. There was “someone” warning us what was going on out there. But, there is Someone even better than that who can help us through our day…God, the Omnipresent Creator of the Universe. I heard the other day that God, scientifically, is a trillion, trillion, trillion times smarter than we are, or some number like that. And we think with our oh-so-smart brains that we can know more than the one true God…that we can know what is best for us…that we can figure this life out better than He can? We better think again.
As my granddaughter returned home from school today, I noticed something was different. Then I realized what it was. She had a different shirt on than she had left for school in. I asked her about it. She said that she had spilled water on her white shirt, and white shirts are not exactly what you want to be wearing in 5th grade when they are all wet. She remembered that very morning that she had noticed another shirt in her backpack. It was left there from picture day. She wondered if she should take it, but she decided to just leave it. Could it have been that “Someone” had gone ahead of her, knowing the mess she would be in without it? She and I believe so. When the water spilled, she thanked God for the extra shirt. Once again, it’s a little thing. But isn’t our day mostly made up of little things that add up to the sum of our day? We can come through the door at the end of the day exhausted from all the little things that wore us down. Or we can come through the door at the end of the day lifted up by all the little things that God brought us through.
Searching And Noticing the Divine moments happen all the time. The question is, are we saying, “Wow God! Thanks!” It takes practice to notice all the ways we are helped in our day. Our Savior has more information and help for us in His pinkie finger than all the smart phones combined. Let’s keep our eyes on that Someone! The very One who has saved us from every mess meant to harm us. The very One who brings us into an eternal Kingdom where the tough stuff of this world is left behind. Thank You, Jesus, for all You have done and continue to do in our lives!
“Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD will personally go ahead of you.
He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you."
