Does God really exist? Does He have His hand on everything? Is He really in the details of our lives? If I had any doubt in that, the story I heard recently from a famous football player would put many of those doubts to rest. This is not another football story, per say. But it is another story about our amazing God!
The year was 2009, and it was a National Championship College game. A now famous football player was in that college game. He had put John 3:16 under his eyes in black. It was reported that 94 million people googled that verse to see what it was. That number boggles my mind. Fast forward to the same exact day three years later. This same quarterback now played for the Denver Broncos. You may have guessed by now that his name is Tim Tebow. It was a game the Broncos played against the Pittsburg Steelers in the first round of the playoffs, and the Broncos won. Of course, Tim was happy about that, and being interviewed after the game was nothing out of the ordinary. But what happened next was! What Tim heard from the reporter after the game was totally out of the ordinary…
Tim was asked, “Did you see what just happened?” Tim said, “Yeah. We just beat the Pittsburg Steelers. We’re going to play the Patriots.” The reporter said, “No. Do you realize what just happened?” He then told Tim some stats about the game that were not coincidences. There are too many, that are too precise, and too astounding, to not see the Divine involved in what happened that day. The game was exactly three years later, to the day, that Tim had written John 3:16 under his eyes in that college game. When Tim was told that, he said, “That’s really cool.” The reporter went on… “No, I don’t think you realize what happened!” During the game, you threw for 316 yards. Your yards per rush were 3.16. Your yards per completion were 31.6. And during the game the ratings for the game were 31.6. The time of possession for the Broncos was 31.6. And once again, approximately 90 million people had already googled John 3:16. It was the #1 trending thing on Facebook and Twitter. Tim's comment on all of this? He now says, “A lot of people say it’s a coincidence. I say, ‘Big God.’”
In Searching And Noticing the Divine, can we all say, “Big God”!? Those stats should boggle our human mind, and help us to see God’s perfect plan and perfect order in this world. God is a God of order, not of confusion. If we understood all the numbers associated with things in the Word of God, we would see perfect patterns, perfect timing, perfect everything. The timing of Jesus’ birth was perfectly in the Father’s plan. The timing of Jesus’ death and resurrection was perfectly in the Father’s plan. The timing of Jesus’ return will also be perfectly in the Father’s plan. Our Father in Heaven is the only one that knows that date. We need not worry. We need not fear. We need only pray and wait to see when that will be. Until then, I hope you have all had a very Merry Christmas enjoying this celebration of our perfect Savior!
“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son,
so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”
