What Are We Looking For?

What are we looking for when we are searching for God? Maybe we’re looking too hard, and too far away? Maybe it’s a seemingly simple thing God wants us to notice about His love for us. For me, this week, it is the warm sunshine that has arrived. I LOVE Spring weather! It’s my absolute favorite time of the year. And even though it’s a bit early, still being February, we are already getting a taste of it here in California. There are even blossoms on some of the trees.

As I searched this week for a new SAND Room writing, the basket of stories was empty. I wondered how God was going to show up. And I believe He was having me realize He is everywhere, absolutely everywhere, as lately, I’ve been waking up in the morning going over one verse, slowly, and emphasizing a different word each time I do.

This is the day the Lord has made;
We will rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalm 118:24 (NKJV)

So it goes like this for me each morning:
THIS is the day the Lord has made…
This IS the day the Lord has made…
This is THE day the Lord has made…
This is the DAY the Lord has made…

And so on…

God is in the “This.” He is in the “is.” He is in the “the.” And He is in the “day.” As I go through each word, it helps me focus, rejoice, and be glad. Doing this, I have deposited seeds of faith and hope in my spiritual bank account, so when I write “checks” on it later in the day, they don’t bounce.

I turned another year older this week. I’m thankful for the thought and care my husband puts into my birthday. He made a delicious whipped-cream and pudding cake. His cake-making happens once a year, so I give him kudos for how awesome it was. I had coffee with a new friend, and kept my birthday a secret. (She found out later on FB.) It was nice to be filled with gratitude for that time together, just because—just because God is good, and He brings such wonderful people into our lives. Many other blessings came my way, too. I noticed them all, Lord. Thank You!

Searching And Noticing the Divine starts the minute we begin our day. Are we submitting to God, and drawing near to Him? Doing so helps us feel the warmth of His Son throughout our day, no matter what the season. If we focus on the things of this world, it will constantly be raining on our parade. It’s up to us. Our Father gave us His One and only Son to set us free, and to help us rejoice in each day. That’s best started before we ever get out of bed...rain or shine.

Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.

James 4:7-8 (NKJV)
